Oceanside Public Library is hosting a screening of the short documentary, Saging the World on Saturday, March 4 in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms located at 330 N. Coast Highway. The screening will be followed by a discussion with filmmaker and contributor, Rose Ramirez and Ami Admire.
Sage smudging has become a popular viral trend. What’s the truth behind the smoke? “Saging,” (people burning sage bundles in the hope of purifying space and clearing bad energy), is common in movies, TV shows, social media, and cleansing rituals. The use of saging in popular culture is having a harmful effect both ecologically and culturally.
The short documentary was produced by Rose Ramirez, Deborah Small, and the California Native Plant Society, to foster awareness and inspire action for white sage. Join us after the screening for a discussion and demonstration of indigenous plant knowledge with Rose Ramirez, of Chumash/Yaqui descent, and Amy Admire, Director of the Rincon Youth Storytellers and of Payómkawichum descent.
