At its August 10 meeting, the City Council selected Jonathan Borrego to serve as Oceanside's next City Manager and an employment agreement was approved at its August 24, 2022 Council meeting.
Mr. Borrego has 34 years of experience in municipal government and has been with the City of Oceanside for five years. Initially hired as the City’s Development Services Director, Jonathan was appointed to the Deputy City Manager position in 2019, and was subsequently named Interim City Manager in March 2022, after the resignation of Deanna Lorson.
Jonathan is a native of Santa Paula, CA, has a BA in Political Science and Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from Cal State University, Long Beach. He also maintains an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification. He and his wife Karen have four adult children.

The City of Oceanside operates under the Council/ Manager form of government. The City Manager provides leadership, guidance and support to City Departments and implements policies, goals and objectives as established by the Oceanside City Council.
