The City of Oceanside is in the process of updating its General Plan. A General Plan discusses a city's goals, policies, and implementation actions regarding future development. As part of its General Plan Update (GPU) and through community input, Oceanside Planners developed a “Community Vision” which summarizes the broad goals to be achieved through the GPU and companion planning documents.
These efforts will be discussed at two upcoming meetings:
The Planning Commission (May 23 at 6:00 p.m.) and City Council (June 22 at 5:00 p.m.) will review and provide direction on two project alternatives for the City’s comprehensive General Plan Update. All are welcome to the meetings, which will take place in the City Council Chambers, located at 300 N. Coast Highway.
Both of these alternatives align with the Community Vision accepted by the City Council in November 2021. City staff is recommending “Alternative B” as the preferred plan for the GPU, as this alternative provides for a higher jobs-to-housing ratio and more growth in the industrial sector. The Alternatives Report can be accessed on the GPU project webpage, onwardoceanside.com.
A decision was made to separate the South Morro Hills Community Plan from the General Plan Update. Therefore, the project alternatives presented to the Planning Commission on March 28 have been revised to reflect no change to current allowances for housing and agritourism uses in South Morro Hills. More information regarding the South Morro Hills Community Plan effort will be provided at a later date.
