New Mental Health Resources in Oceanside
People experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis in Oceanside now have a new resource available to them. San Diego County opened a new Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) at its North Coastal Live Well Center located at 1701 Mission Avenue at Barnes in Oceanside. The CSU provides community-based 24/7 walk-in mental health and substance use services for those in a behavioral health crisis, with stays of less than 24 hours. This new service provides much-needed support to individuals who might typically end up at a local emergency room or jail.
In addition, a new North Coastal Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) was recently activated. This intervention program is for children, youth, and adults, who are experiencing a crisis. Requests for these mobile services are triaged by the San Diego Access and Crisis Line (ACL) by calling (888) 724-7240. The licensed clinicians at the ACL are available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year. Each MCRT team consists of a Licensed Mental Health Clinician, a Case Manager, and a Peer Support Specialist.MCRT services are designed to help the client cope with the crisis at hand while maintaining their functional status and prevent further decompensation or hospitalization. The Cohen Veterans Network (CVN) has also opened a clinic in Oceanside. The clinic treats specifically post-9/11 veterans, active duty service members and their families whose sysmptoms have been linked to the stress of military service and combat. CVN offers brief, client-centered therapy for a variety of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, adjustment issues, anger, grief and loss, family issues, transition challenges, relationship problems, and children’s behavioral problems.
Also in the works is a new psychiatric health facility being built, in a unique partnership with Tri-City Medical Center, on its campus on Vista Way in Oceanside. This modern facility will provide essential mental health services assistance for adult clients requiring inpatient care.
