The City of Oceanside Water Utilities Department purchases imported raw water from the San Diego County Water Authority and treats it at the Robert A. Weese Filtration Plant. This plant uses direct filtration and is capable of treating up to 25 million gallons per day (MGD) of surface water. Direct filtration is one form of water filtration which consists of rapid mix, flocculation, filtration and disinfection.
The Water Utilities Department maintains and operates this plant on a 24 hour basis, and it provides the bulk of Oceanside’s water. The plant was built in 1983 and has undergone several upgrades over the years to ensure its efficiency and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. The plant is maintained and operated by a staff of highly trained individuals who are required to hold certifications ranging from Water Treatment Grade I through Water Treatment Grade V.
