FAQs

Who is demanding 5G?

Data consumption continues to increase. This is largely driven by consumers increasingly using mobile video, but is also impacted by the number of devices with cellular connectivity. These devices include, among other things, vehicles, home security systems, household appliances, smartphones, tablets, sensors, and public safety and traffic control devices. Accommodating all these different uses requires greater network efficiency and capacity to reduce congestion on the network. The industry has taken a multi-layered approach to resolving these issues by purchasing more radio spectrum licenses from the FCC and deploying more small cells. More spectrum allows providers to provide greater bandwidth and more small cells decrease the number of users that access the network from a particular point at a given time. Taken together, the shift to 5G will allow providers to meet the growing consumer demand for wireless services.
